Introduction
"You know what?"
"Your girlfriend is something else. Especially those long legs of hers. Mmm…"
I watched my boss across from me, howling with smug, arrogant laughter.
I just stared at him, cold and quiet, letting him put on his little show.
And right when he thought he'd hit his peak, I drove my foot straight into his gut.
I was done pretending. The mask was off.
Chapter 1
After graduation.
My girlfriend dragged me along to apply for jobs.
For her sake, I kept my mouth shut about being the heir to one of the biggest fortunes in the country. I'd work for love. As long as I was near her, nothing else mattered.
Funny thing was — Stellarix happened to be a supplier for one of my family's companies.
Over fifty percent of their business came from us.
She'd brought me here. I hadn't told her who I really was. I didn't want to scare her off.
We'd both studied business administration, and we got placed in the Planning Department.
First day on the job, the department manager finished running through the orientation rundown and launched straight into the highlight reel of his own "legendary career" at Stellarix.
The other interns flocked around him like a pack of yes-men, throwing out compliments every few seconds.
He ate it up.
Listening to it made my skin crawl. I just stood off to the side, watching the show.
It didn't take long for him to notice the odd one out.
"Hey, you. First day on the job and you're already trying to be different, huh?"
"Don't think landing at Stellarix means you can coast!"
"In here, my word is law. I say you stay, you stay. I say you walk, you're out the door."
Trevor Chambers crossed his arms, chin lifted, soaking in his own performance.
"Okay," I said.
That single word lit the fuse. Trevor exploded.
He stormed over, snatching at the ID badge hanging from my neck.
