In my past life, my best friend and I were inseparable.
We were neighbors. I was even the godmother of her child.
I took care of her throughout her pregnancy.
Then I got pregnant too.
But in my third trimester, she pushed me down the stairs.
I died. Both of us—me and my unborn baby—were gone.
Just before I took my last breath, I heard her whisper:
"Surprised? The baby I had was actually your husband's. And now I'm pregnant again."
"The fortune teller said you brought him luck. That's the only reason he kept you around."
"He doesn't need you anymore. You and that bastard in your belly—go die together."
"Your big house, your husband, your money... all mine now."
Chapter 1
My best friend's twisted face and her venomous words kept replaying in my mind.
Then everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes again, someone shoved me.
"What are you standing there for? Drink up! It's my wedding day, and as my bridesmaid, it's basic manners to take a few drinks for me."
I looked around, my hands trembling uncontrollably.
I... was reborn?
This was the day.
In my past life, I drank for her that night. I had an allergic reaction. Her childhood friend Lucas took care of me—and took advantage of me while I was unconscious.
I panicked and begged my best friend for advice.
She told me to let him take responsibility. Lucas said he would. Said he liked me.
With both of them pushing me, I became Lucas's girlfriend.
I didn't know I was inviting wolves into my home.
They worked together to take everything I had. And then they killed me.
I died with my eyes wide open.
But I've been given a second chance.
I won't make the same mistakes.
My best friend seems to have forgotten something. I might be soft-hearted, but I'm not someone who lets herself be pushed around.
She shoved me again. "Hurry up!"
I picked up my glass, raised it in a circle around the table, then poured the wine onto the floor.
"I'm allergic to alcohol. I won't be drinking. Everyone, please enjoy yourselves."
The room went dead silent.
Then someone exploded.
"Nathan, this is the wife you brought home?!"
"What kind of message is she sending by making the bridesmaid do this?!"
"Pouring wine on the ground—that's what you do for the dead!"
"If you don't give us elders an explanation tonight, your whole family is getting kicked out of the family registry!"
